The Lagos State Government has responded to Instagram blogger Tunde Ednut after he shared a video purportedly showing piles of refuse in Mushin, Lagos.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, directly addressed the blogger in a post on X on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
Wahab described the footage as outdated, insisting that it did not represent the current situation at the location shown in the video.
Wahab Accuses Tunde Ednut of Sharing Outdated Content
The commissioner also criticised what he described as Tunde Ednut’s repeated tendency to present Lagos and Nigeria negatively to his large audience.
He explained that the specific area featured in the viral footage had already been cleared, adding that the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) had continued its waste management operations in the area.
In his statement, Tokunbo Wahab wrote:
“Dear Tunde @mazitundeednut, We understand your persistent tendency to portray Nigeria, particularly Lagos State, in a negative light, often to the detriment of your audience. However, we believe it is important to verify information before publishing it. You can still generate engagement and earn from your content without inadvertently misleading your followers.”
He continued:
“Contrary to your recent post showing the state of the road in Mushin, the video shared is an old one and does not reflect the current situation in the area. The location has since been cleared, and LAWMA has continued to sustain its operations in the area.”
Lagos Govt Speaks on Waste Management Challenges
While defending the government’s efforts, Wahab acknowledged that waste disposal remains an issue in Lagos, noting that the challenge is not unique to the state.
He identified residents and property owners who fail to pay for private-sector waste collection services as one of the recurring problems affecting effective waste management.
According to the commissioner, LAWMA teams have continued to intervene in areas experiencing waste-related challenges while working to maintain cleaner communities.
Wahab Urges Content Creators to Verify Information
Wahab also appealed to Tunde Ednut and other content creators to confirm the accuracy and relevance of information before publishing it online.
“We therefore encourage you to verify your information before publishing, rather than relying on outdated content that could give a misleading impression of the current situation or unnecessarily project Lagos and Nigeria in a negative light,” he wrote.
The commissioner concluded by stressing that criticism can be useful when it is based on facts.
“Constructive criticism is welcome, but it is most effective when it is based on accurate and verifiable information,” the commissioner added.
