Nollywood has suffered another painful loss following the death of actress Atinuke Remilekun Kareem, popularly known as Atinuke Kareem, who reportedly passed away after battling breast cancer.
Owolabi Ajasa, the Ogun State governor of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), announced her death on Tuesday, September 1, in a statement shared on his Instagram page.
“We sincerely appreciate everyone who contributed financially, offered prayers, encouragement, and support towards the treatment of our dear colleague, ATINUKE REMILEKUN KAREEM,” Ajasa wrote.
“Sadly, despite all our efforts and prayers, Atinuke has passed on and answered the final call. We cannot question the Almighty God. We can only submit to His will and pray that He grants her eternal rest and gives her family, colleagues, and loved ones the strength to bear this painful lost.”
Atinuke Had Appealed for Public Support
Reports indicate that Atinuke had appealed publicly for financial assistance from members of the public and well-wishers to help cover the cost of her medical treatment about four months before her death.
Her appeal attracted support and sympathy from fans, friends and colleagues within the entertainment industry.
Her death comes at a difficult time for the Nigerian film industry, which is still mourning the loss of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
Ogogo died just eight days before Atinuke after reportedly battling stage 4 cancer, adding to the grief already being felt by colleagues and fans.
