The national leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has constituted and inaugurated a seven-man caretaker committee charged with managing transport parks and garages across Osun state, in a move that directly contests Governor Ademola Adeleke’s suspension of the union’s activities in the state.
The inauguration was held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the NURTW headquarters in Garki Area, Abuja. Alhaji Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Asiri Eniba, was appointed to head the newly established caretaker committee as its chairman.
NURTW president Musiliu Akinsanya, better known as MC Oluomo, was represented at the event by his deputy, Aliyu Issa Ore.
During the ceremony, Ore strongly rejected the governor’s intervention and maintained that the state government had no authority to suspend the union’s operations.
Governor Adeleke’s Suspension Order
Governor Adeleke had ordered the suspension of all NURTW activities at motor parks across Osun state, explaining that the decision was aimed at restoring order and strengthening public security.
Kolapo Alimi, who announced the suspension, also instructed security agencies to arrest anyone claiming to be a union official within any motor park. The directive further brought the collection of levies to an immediate halt.
NURTW Fires Back at Adeleke
According to PUNCH, Ore strongly opposed the suspension, arguing that state governors do not possess the legal powers required to halt the activities of the union at any level.
“Today, we heard that the state governor in Osun suspended the activities of our union, which they don’t have that power. Not any single state governor has power to suspend the activities of the union, because we are not under any state. There is an Act that established the NURTW. We have one series of decrees,” Ore said.
He cited previous court disputes involving the union in Oyo, Lagos and other states, stressing that the NURTW had repeatedly secured favourable outcomes whenever similar efforts were made to stop its operations.
Ore further disclosed that the decision to inaugurate the caretaker committee was also connected to the forthcoming Osun governorship election, explaining that the union has a memorandum of understanding with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He added that, acting on the instruction of MC Oluomo, he had visited INEC the previous day to discuss issues relating to the matter.
“In view of this, we have to inaugurate the caretaker members, who are to mount the leadership of the NURTW, pending the time we resolve all issues attached to Osun,” Ore added.
