Months after an uncomfortable exchange with Funke Akindele sparked widespread conversation across Nollywood, actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has addressed the incident once again, this time making it clear that she has moved on from the controversy.
The actress, who previously insisted she would never greet her colleague again after what transpired at a movie premiere, has now indicated that she prefers to leave the matter behind rather than dwell on it.
During an appearance on the Morayo Afolabi Brown Show, Toyin looked back on the incident while opening up about how years of public scrutiny and criticism have shaped her outlook.
According to the actress, she has become emotionally resilient in the face of online attacks and negative comments. She explained that criticism no longer affects her the way it once did, adding that very little people say now has the power to hurt her.
She stated: “There is nothing anyone would say that will get to me anymore.”
Toyin further explained that on the rare occasions she responds to those who criticize her, it is not because she is upset or offended.
She added: “If I respond to you, it’s because I am just having fun with you. I want to play with you.”
When the conversation shifted to her highly publicised fallout with Funke Akindele, the actress declined to revisit the episode. Instead, she stressed that she has no desire to dwell on events from the past.
She responded: “I don’t want to talk about it because I don’t like talking about my past.”
The actress also addressed another recurring issue she has encountered throughout her career, urging fans and members of the public to stop comparing her with fellow actresses. She emphasized that her focus is on creating her own unique legacy.
She added: “I don’t like it when they pitch me with anyone. I just want to be me, Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi.”
The interview comes several months after a video from Iyabo Ojo’s movie premiere went viral online. The footage showed Toyin approaching Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo and Mercy Aigbe to greet them.
Many social media users interpreted the moment as Funke ignoring Toyin’s greeting, triggering heated discussions across various online platforms.
In the aftermath of the incident, Toyin publicly announced that she would never greet Funke again and disclosed that she had unfollowed her colleague on social media.
