Actress Annie Macaulay has addressed public backlash after she was criticized for congratulating fashion designer Abiodun Folashade Tokunbo, widely known as CEO Luminee, who recently welcomed a child with convicted sex offender Baba Ijesha.
Baba Ijesha, whose real name is Olanrewaju James Omiyinka, previously served a prison sentence after being found guilty of sexually abusing a minor and was released after completing his jail term.
The designer’s marriage to him, alongside the announcement of their newborn, triggered widespread public outrage.
Many social media users also questioned Luminee’s decision, pointing out that she is already a mother to a young daughter from a previous relationship.
Annie, the ex-wife of singer Innocent “2Baba” Idibia, also faced criticism after she publicly congratulated Luminee. Her post drew sharp reactions online, with critics reminding the actress, who is also a mother of two daughters, about Baba Ijesha’s criminal past.
Following the backlash, Annie has now clarified that her message was purely based on a prior professional connection with the fashion designer.
She explained that Luminee had designed an outfit for her a few months earlier and insisted she was not aware of the controversy surrounding the baby announcement.
She further addressed the situation in a comment shared on Instagram, where she wrote:
“what’s going on…. Pls guys I do not understand… the lady made a nice dress for me few months ago, I honestly do not know what’s going on guys… saw her post on my TL about just having a baby n dropped a heart as congrats!
I’m I missing something? What did I do wrong? Cos I’m genuinely lost o why d plenty insults guys? I honestly do not know anything at all about her personal life, beyond d fact that she made d pretty dress I wore to affrima Pls can someone enlighten me ?
