Fresh controversy has emerged following the service of songs organised in memory of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, as a new video featuring media personality Daddy Freeze discussing his experience at the event has gained attention online.
The development comes shortly after Daddy Freeze responded to criticism surrounding his choice of outfit for the occasion. While many celebrities who attended complied with the event’s white dress code, the broadcaster opted to appear in black attire, sparking conversations on social media.
Speaking in a video that has since circulated across various platforms, Daddy Freeze reflected on what transpired during the memorial gathering.
According to him, gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey disclosed during the event that he had never personally met Alexx Ekubo. However, he reportedly mentioned that he and a pastor friend had intended to visit the actor before his passing.
Reacting to the revelation, Daddy Freeze questioned why no miracle was performed for the late actor. He also wondered why prayers and songs were offered after Alexx Ekubo’s death if such spiritual intervention had not taken place while he was still alive.
The media personality further expressed dissatisfaction with a sermon delivered at the gathering, arguing that a memorial service of that nature did not require preaching.
He also criticised gospel singer Mercy Chinwo’s performance, alleging that the atmosphere of the event shifted from a solemn remembrance to what he considered a concert-like setting.
Freeze stated that it was during this segment of the programme that he decided to leave and return home.
He said: “Does Mercy Chinwo not have soft music? Do you not understand what a funeral is? They should have sung hymns,”
