Nollywood actor Solomon Akiyesi has been laid to rest, with photos and videos from his funeral circulating on social media.
The movie star died two weeks ago, a loss that plunged the film industry into mourning and sparked widespread tributes from colleagues and fans.
Yakub Abubakar, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, said the late actor had earlier complained of pain before he was taken to the hospital for medical attention.
According to him, the situation worsened when the actor’s wife attempted to wake him around 4:00 a.m., only to discover that he was unresponsive.
In a Facebook post seen online, friends and family members came together to honour the late actor and pay their final respects ahead of his burial.
A brief church service was also held, where mourners appeared visibly solemn as they sang hymns and offered prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul.
Photographs from the event showed most attendees dressed in black T-shirts printed with the late actor’s image, while others wore plain black outfits in a show of mourning for the departed film star.
However, fans noticed the absence of many of his colleagues in the shared images from the ceremony. This sparked mixed reactions, with some questioning why they were not present to pay their last respects, while others prayed for his soul and praised his acting talent during his lifetime.
Some social media users also commented on the actor’s widow, pointing out how overwhelmed with grief she appeared during the burial ceremony.
Others wondered whether the actor married late, noting that his son still looks quite young.
