Nigerian sports journalist, Pooja has publicly called out gospel singer and pastor Nathaniel Bassey after being blocked on X (formerly Twitter) following a football-related exchange.
The situation began after Brighton’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool FC in the Premier League on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
Reacting to the result, Nathaniel Bassey criticised the team’s performance under manager Arne Slot, writing:
“Liverpool so ordinary under Arne Slot.”
Pooja responded with a light-hearted jab, referencing the singer’s popular online prayer programme.
He wrote:
“Even Hallelujah Challenge can rescue Liverpool.”
However, the exchange took a turn when the journalist later revealed that he had been blocked by the singer after his comment.
Sharing his reaction, Pooja posted:
“Nathaniel Bassey blocked me after this tweet. Baba God, na banter o.”
Following backlash from some of Nathaniel Bassey’s supporters, who accused him of crossing the line, Pooja defended himself, insisting it was harmless football banter.
He wrote:
“When they dragged my hustle cos of Bruno Fernandes, everyone dey kikiki.. Just simple banter with Oga Nathaniel & everyone is foaming in the mouths. Double standards.”
