A Nigerian lady has disclosed why Catholics can no longer join Pastor Nathaniel Bassey’s Hallelujah Challenge.
Hallelujah Challenge, an online praise and worship programme has witnessed wide reception from not only Nigerians but Christians all over the world.
In a recent development, a lady took to her TikTok handle to reveal why Catholics can no longer continue with the programme.
According to the caption in her video, she noted that with the arrival of the Lenten season, Catholics can no longer shout Hallelujah.
Notably, In many Christian traditions, particularly in the Roman Catholic, Lutheran, and Anglican churches, the word Hallelujah (or Alleluia) is omitted during Lent to reflect the season’s somber and penitential character.
Just as a person might fast from food, the Church “fasts” from certain words of joy. Because Hallelujah means “Praise the Lord” and is an expression of great celebration, it is considered a mismatch for the Lenten focus on repentance and the sacrifice of Jesus.
The focus of Lent is mourning instead of rejoicing.
Captioning her post, she wrote:
“Catholics realising they can’t continue “Hallelujah Challenge because “Lenten season” has started and we can’t be shouting hallelujah.”
She added:
“It’s heartbreaking though. See y’all in October”
