Bandits have carried out a violent attack on travelers along major routes in Oyo and Kwara states, abducting multiple passengers.
An exclusive account from a commercial driver revealed that the gunmen struck on Wednesday night, March 4, targeting vehicles along the Kishi–Ibadan corridor.
According to the driver, the assailants abducted around eight passengers from three separate vehicles. Two additional sources independently corroborated the attack.
One local resident, Silifat Doyin, reported seeing military and police aircraft patrolling the skies over Kishi town on Thursday morning, describing the unusual sight as alarming.
Efforts are already underway to rescue the victims. Vigilante groups have reportedly been deployed into nearby forests to assist security forces.
Kishi, located in northern Oyo State, serves as the headquarters of Irepo Local Government Area (LGA), where residents are expressing growing concern over the escalating tension.
Authorities were initially unaware of the incident. The Oyo State Police Command spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, told Legit.ng that there were no immediate updates. However, shortly after, the police confirmed that four individuals had been abducted along the Igbeti–Kishi Road.
Olayinka stated that the Commissioner of Police has directed divisional officers in Kishi and Igbeti, supported by tactical teams, to utilize all operational resources to rescue the victims and apprehend the culprits.
Coordinated search and intelligence operations are ongoing in the surrounding areas.
“The Command remains committed to the safety of residents and urges the public to stay calm while sharing any information that could assist security operations,” Olayinka said.
The Oyo State Government is yet to release an official statement regarding the unfortunate incident.
