A lady, Awesomeness Esuabana, who went for a job interview offering a salary of N150k to N200k, has shared how she landed a pay offer five times higher than what was initially intended.
While noting that it was a new company, the lady said she went for the interview knowing she would not accept a salary in the range of N150k to N200k.
At the job interview, the self-acclaimed Nigeria’s number one team expert said she met the company’s founder, who asked her what values she would bring to the company.
Awesomeness said she mentioned five things to the founder and that they had deep conversations.
When it came to salary negotiation, she asked for five times the founder’s budget, and he agreed to her demand.
Awesomeness opined that most employees remain in the same position for years because they think salary is the only thing they can negotiate.
She highlighted that employees can negotiate HMO upgrades, performance bonuses, pension contributions, professional development allowances and flexible work conditions.

“First of all, the role was perfect for my expertise – aligning internal frameworks, processes, operations, and people with company vision.
“It was a new company, so the salary range was understandable.
“I knew I couldn’t accept that pay level, but I respected that this founder understood the importance of building solid foundations from Day One. “So I went anyway. “Truth is, I also wanted to reality-check myself.
“You know how sometimes we think we’re the best thing after Port Harcourt Bole and Fish? We’re usually not, sometimes and I really wanted to see.
“I met the founder and after the usual pleasantries, he asked the usual, “What value can you bring to our company?”
“I mentioned five things I’d deliver, starting with: “I’ll make sure your visions are translated into systems, processes, and day-to-day execution…”
“We had deep conversations about building the right business structure. “Then came the salary discussion.
