A man, Asonumaka George Wakama, has warned people not to waste their time participating in Pastor Nathaniel Bassey’s Hallelujah Challenge.
The Hallelujah Challenge is an online praise and prayer program convened by Pastor Nathaniel Bassey and takes place during specific periods each year, and has enjoyed growing popularity over the years.
But for George, the Hallelujah Challenge has no foundation in the Bible and is an empty ritual that leads to superficial experiences.
George frowned at the pursuit of emotional highs without a deepening relationship with God, calling it unfulfilling and fleeting.
George, in a lengthy Facebook post, maintained that true spirituality is rooted in sound doctrine and not emotional experiences.
In his words:
“I screen below was a post fromÂ
Elder OkechukwuÂ
Most of his writings addresses the inner discomfort I have felt noticed and observed about most of our Pentecostal fellowshipÂ
I have always known there is something odd with most of their practices and actions
But I have not been able to put my hand and mind to this uneaseÂ
Until I came across his writings and I knew ..
He is someone I can learn from ..
Concerning his views expressed on thisÂ
Alleluia challenge thing it’s better we examine issues dispassionately..
Indeed the Hallelujah Challenge has sparked intense debate, with many questioning its authenticity and biblical basis.Â
Critics argue that it’s mere bombast and fanfare, devoid of sound gospel teachings.Â
Worship without a solid foundation in the gospel is nothing more than emotional manipulation, akin to the excitement generated by sports, games, or music concerts.
A closer look at the Bible reveals no precedent for believers gathering for an “Alleluia challenge.”
In fact, the Bible emphasizes the importance of sound doctrine and apostolic teachings.Â
Without these, we’re left with empty rituals and superficial experiences.
Honestly the pursuit of emotional highs without a deepening relationship with God is fleeting and unfulfilling.Â
Decades of fanfare and spectacle have yielded little in terms of genuine spiritual growth, with many still trapped in dead works and legalism.
Repentance from dead works is elementary (Hebrews 6:1), and those bound by legalistic practices are cut off from Christ (Galatians 5:1, 4).
The Bible warns against preachers who distort the gospel, labeling them accursed (Galatians 1:6-9).Â
True spirituality is rooted in sound doctrine, not emotional experiences or superficial practices.
Let’s examine theÂ
Midnight Prayers thingyÂ
While the Bible doesn’t specifically prescribe midnight vigils, it does contain instances of Jesus and early believers praying at night.Â
These prayers were often driven by specific needs or circumstances, rather than ritualistic practices.Â
The early Christian church continued this practice, holding nighttime prayers and vigils.Â
Today, some churches have reinstated this practice as a way to deepen their spiritual connection with God as their primary aim.
However like in all thing human it’s bound to get fouled up by ineffectual “noble” intentions after all the road to hell is heavily populated with good intentionsÂ
Let’s have it in mind,Â
the effectiveness of prayer lies not in the time of day or the practice itself, but in the individual’s relationship with God and the sincerity of their prayers.Â
God’s response to prayer depends on factors like heart attitude, alignment with His will, and conformation to His image (Matthew 21:22, James 1:5-7, 1 John 5:14-15)
Ultimately, what works for you lies within your personal relationship with God that power in you, powers a bigger response to whatever you put before God in prayers …
Ephesians 3:20Â
Therefore, It’s necessary that we prioritize sound doctrine, genuine spiritual growth, and a deepening relationship with God.
May our pursuit of God be driven by a desire for intimacy with Him, rather than fleeting emotional experiences.
To this end my candid advise, don’t waste your time adding to the brand publicity stunt of a gospel singer.Â
He’s creaming off making so much money on this Alleluia challenge stuff at the expense of depriving you of your sleep and health.Â
Don’t be party to it.”
