Nigerian movie star, Uche Ogbodo has reacted after receiving criticism from social media users for previously promoting Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery following the tragic death of Elena Jessica.
The Nollywood actress addressed the controversy in a video shared on her Instagram page, where she responded to the backlash and clarified her views on cosmetic surgery.
At the start of the video, Ogbodo acknowledged the sadness surrounding Elena Jessica’s death and the impact the incident had on many Nigerians. She explained that several people had been tagging her online due to her earlier promotion of BBL procedures.
She said:
“A few days ago, Nigeria was thrown into mourning because we lost a very beautiful woman, Elena Jessica. It’s really sad and painful. I have pondered so much on why that beautiful girl had to die.”
The actress added that she understood why some people were questioning her, but stressed that complications can arise from different types of medical procedures, not only cosmetic surgery.
According to her:
“BBL, yes, is risky. But tell me what sickness is not risky. Tell me what surgery is not risky. People die from things as simple as appendicitis surgery.”
Ogbodo explained that the key factors in reducing risks include proper medical information, choosing a qualified doctor, and ensuring appropriate care after surgery to prevent infections and other complications.
In the caption of her post, the actress maintained that BBL should not automatically be viewed negatively.
She emphasised that thorough research, selecting a competent surgeon, and having clear reasons for undergoing the procedure are essential.
She also noted that some women choose procedures such as a “mummy makeover” after childbirth to help them regain confidence and feel comfortable with their bodies again.
According to her:
“Motherhood is beautiful, but so is choosing to take care of yourself. You deserve to feel good, look good, and love the woman you see in the mirror.”
