Social media personality Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja, widely known as Peller, has stated that he will not return to Benin City despite being summoned by the Oba of Benin Palace.
The influencer made this known during a livestream sparking mixed reactions online as many await an official response from palace authorities.
During the broadcast, someone suggested the possibility of sending his management team in his place, but Peller rejected the idea, insisting he would not allow any of his associates to be put at risk, noting that they will be jailed.
The situation stems from an incident on March 6, 2026, when Peller reportedly gained unauthorised access to the palace.
The Benin Traditional Council described the act as a serious violation of palace protocol and a desecration of a sacred space.
In a statement issued by its secretary, Frank Irabor, the council confirmed that sanctions have already been imposed on individuals within the palace who were linked to the breach.
A chief involved has been suspended indefinitely, while a palace staff member, Mr Omuemu, has been taken into custody by the Nigeria Police Force and charged in court for actions related to the incident.
The council also noted that a queen connected to the matter is undergoing disciplinary proceedings that could lead to her removal in accordance with Benin customs.
Peller was invited to appear before a panel of chiefs to explain his actions but has yet to comply.
The council emphasized that he is expected to present himself and submit a formal written apology, warning that further legal steps may be taken if he continues to ignore the directive.
Reaffirming its stance, the council stressed that the palace remains a deeply respected institution guided by long-standing traditions, and it is committed to upholding the honour and sanctity of the Oba and the royal establishment.
