The ECWA Fate-Tanke District Church Council in Ilorin has expressed deep concern over the recent abduction of worshippers in Kwara State.
According to reports, armed attackers invaded a church service on Sunday and abducted eight members of the congregation.
Three of the victims were later rescued through a joint effort by security operatives.
In a statement, the council described the incident as deeply distressing, revealing that the kidnappers disrupted the service and took away several worshippers, including the wife of the minister in charge, Mrs. Omole.
“We received with great sorrow the disturbing report that bandits disrupted the worship service and abducted eight members, including the wife of the Minister in charge of the church, Mrs. Omole.
“This painful development is yet another troubling occurrence in recent times, particularly affecting ECWA churches and communities across Kwara South Senatorial District,” the council stated.
The church leadership also called on security agencies to strengthen preventive measures, stressing the need to protect lives and property before such incidents occur rather than reacting afterward.
“The District Executive commits these our beloved brethren into God’s hands, praying earnestly for their safety and speedy release.
“We trust the Lord to comfort the affected families and strengthen His Church in this trying time.
“May the peace of God be with them amen,” the statement added.
In light of this, various reactions have trailed the statement from the church.
