Nigeria successfully booked their place in the 2025 AFCON round of 16 after a 3-2 victory over Tunisia on Saturday.
Drama escalated minutes after Malian referee Boubou Traore awarded a controversial penalty against Nigeria in a 3-2 win against Tunsia.
Bright Osayi-Samuel was penalized for a challenge inside the penalty area and VAR’s ruled the ball had touched his hand despite his hands appearing in a natural position.
Tunsia converted the penalty adding late tensions to the already thrilling game, but Nigeria held on the win and top spot in group C.
According to Legit.ng, Nigerian football expert, Toritseju Williams called the penalty a “wrong call” and this was after Nigeria survived a late drama despite a controversial penalty against Super Eagles.
Toritseju Williams criticized the decision and VAR’s involvement in the controversial penalty.
He said:
“That was a wrong call from the referee and VAR because that was not a penalty, in no way was that a penalty because the defender’s hands were in the right position.”
