Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has confirmed the death of its spokesperson, Ali Mohammad Naeini, following what Israeli authorities described as an overnight air strike.
The incident signifies a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, raising fears of a wider regional confrontation.
Israeli officials reported that the strike targeted strategic positions, while Iranian authorities condemned the attack as part of a coordinated military offensive, according to Al Jazeera via X.
In retaliation, Iran reportedly launched attacks on key infrastructure, including facilities linked to Oil Refineries Ltd in Haifa, which the company confirmed suffered damage to critical installations.
Further Iranian strikes on Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City are expected to reduce liquefied natural gas export capacity by roughly 17 percent, signaling potential disruptions in the global energy supply.
On the otherhand, humanitarian organizations have expressed growing concern over the rising death toll.
The Iranian Red Crescent Society reported that at least 204 children have died, with total fatalities in Iran surpassing 1,444.
Additionally, more than 1,000 people have reportedly died in Israeli strikes on Lebanon, underscoring a rapidly worsening humanitarian crisis.
In response to the intensifying hostilities, Switzerland announced it has suspended approvals for arms exports to the United States, citing its policy of neutrality.
The Swiss government stated:
“The export of war materiel to countries involved in the international armed conflict with Iran cannot be authorised for the duration of the conflict.”
It further added:
“Exports of war materiel to the USA cannot currently be authorised.”
The development coincides with millions of Muslims across the Middle East observing Eid, while Iran also celebrates Nowruz amid heightened tensions.
Analysts warn that the killing of a senior IRGC official marks a dangerous new phase in the conflict, increasing the risk of retaliatory strikes and further regional instability.
