Branches of major financial institutions across Nigeria, including Access Bank, United Bank for Africa, Zenith Bank, and Guaranty Trust Bank, will remain closed on Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20.
The temporary closure is in line with the public holidays declared by the Federal Government to mark Eid al-Fitr, which signifies the conclusion of the Ramadan fasting period.
The announcement was made via a statement shared on X by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
In the statement, the minister congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the holy month and encouraged them to continue embracing the values associated with Ramadan, such as compassion, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice.
He also called on Nigerians to take advantage of the festive period to offer prayers for the country’s unity, stability, and progress.
Part of the statement read:
“The Minister urges Muslims to sustain the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice, which were emphasised during the holy month.
He also called on all Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the continued peace, unity, and prosperity of the nation.”
Tunji-Ojo further advised citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend kindness to those in need during the festivities.
The government also reaffirmed its commitment to fostering national unity and peaceful coexistence across the country.
