Authorities in Oman have announced that the nation’s main moon-sighting committee will convene on Thursday, March 19, to observe the crescent moon, which signals the beginning of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar year 1447 AH.
Residents and citizens across the country have been encouraged to watch for the crescent and promptly report any confirmed sightings to the designated committees.
The outcome of this observation will determine the official end of Ramadan and the start of Eid al-Fitr as per GulfNews
Ramadan, regarded as the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, holds deep spiritual importance for Muslims worldwide. It is a period devoted to fasting, prayer, and reflection.
During the month, fasting begins at dawn after a pre-dawn meal known as suhoor and ends at sunset with iftar, when families and communities often gather to break their fast.
Throughout the fasting hours, participants abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs.
While customs may differ across regions, Ramadan is widely observed with communal prayers, shared meals, and cultural traditions that highlight its significance.
The fasting period is considered obligatory for Muslims, serving as a time for spiritual discipline, self-restraint, and devotion.
