Interior designer, Mabel Makun has reverted to her maiden name, Nwanegbu, following her separation from comedian Ayo Makun.
The update became noticeable after Mabel shared a video on Thursday, April 9, 2026, showcasing souvenirs from her 40th birthday celebration.
The customised items bore the name “Dr Mabel Nwanegbu” alongside the theme, “A Celebration of Praise, Gratitude & Grace,” with the event dated March 30, 2026.
Despite this, a check on her Instagram profile still shows the name “Mrs Makun,” leaving fans speculating about her gradual transition back to her maiden identity.
Her grand birthday celebration had earlier drawn attention for its star-studded turnout, with celebrities like Toyin Abraham and Don Jazzy in attendance, alongside Bose Ogulu.
Mabel and AY’s marriage, which lasted about 16 years, officially ended in April 2024. The union produced two daughters before their split became public.
Addressing the breakup at the time, AY admitted to personal shortcomings, stating:
“Yes! Without compromising my family, I have found myself doing some things that I am not proud of today. It is one thing to watch my friendship/marriage of 20 years slip off my hands, but it’s another thing for the parties involved to understand how to appropriate the blame…”
